I share here my ongoing games in the final section of the 13th U.S. Correspondence Championship. I hope other members of US13F may also be persuaded to do this, for the sake of promoting interest in chess, and interest in the correspondence game. You will see my move posted here in each game, together with my opponent's response, more or less as soon as I receive my opponent's move (bear in mind that hard-working Franklin must be allowed some time to put the latest information up). Thus in each position you see, I will be on move. In this way, I will avoid telegraphing my latest move to my opponent. Also, you will have the opportunity to play along with me and see whether my eventual move agrees with your choice. This is a very tough section, and I have no idea of my prospects in it. I will be satisfied with a plus score, but of course, I hope for much more. Bearing in mind the strength of my opponents, I may have to settle for much less. Since my game is far from perfect, I have no doubt that many visitors here will have better ideas than I have about many of these positions. Please refrain, however, from sharing your insights with me, even to the extent of saying "you are better," or "Brandhorst is better." If you have a strong interest in some of these positions, please record your ideas and send them to me when the game is over; after the result has been posted, I'll be very grateful for anything you have to say, even "You patzer, you missed 24...Re1+!!" I also encourage you to contact me at any time, even while the games are in progress, to discuss the idea of publishing ongoing games in this way. To me, it seems that all correspondence games of a certain level should be made public while they are in progress. What better way to promote our splendid pursuit? Mark Morss |
