My photo walk of 29 May 2009

29 May 2009

Tonight (Friday) we went out to dinner, as we frequently do on Fridays. Since losing weight and exercising regularly I have been able to consume more carbs without problems. Sometimes I get overconfident, as tonight. Mmmm, potato skins, breaded chicken fingers, breaded fried cheese sticks and a hamburger (eating some of the bun). An hour later my blood sugar was up to 154. Time for another photo walk!

110 minute brisk walk. A new personal record, almost two hours of walking. There were certainly breaks to take photos, but I got some real exercise this evening. I also took 71 photos, 33 of which are reproduced on this page. It was a bit disappointing that my number was only down to 114 after this major walk.

I set my destination as an area near the Mason antiques district. I've noticed these distinctive blue buildings on many occasions and also noticed the street next to them leading to an unfamiliar area. See the middle photo in row four below. I decided to check out the blue buildings and walk down this mystery street.

I failed to pay attention to the sign on this street (dead end). As I walked along the street turned to a dirt road, but I continued on interested in what would come next. After about a mile I came to the sign pictured below which read "Road Ends" (middle of row 7 below). This was the beginning of an adventure trying to make progress without returning the way I came. Across the railroad tracks I could see a large lot filled with huge corregated pipes. I made my way through this lot only to find a fence, but luckily there was a break in the fence allowing me to continue. I went past several commercial buildings and the parking area for the Mason school busses. I eventually found my way back to known territory ... Cedar Street, but I was a long way from home after over an hour of walking. Heading south on Cedar Street I eventually made my way back to North Mason Street and took a picture of the previously ignored "Dead End" sign. That circular route took over an hour of walking.

My trip started with a photo of a squirrel a short distance down my street, then on to my daughter's family house, where I took pictures of daughter Meg, her husband Jeff and daughter Hazel. Jeff has been an inspiration and real help to me, taking me to the gym frequently and losing over 100 pounds himself. Notice his good condition as he shows his strong arm. Both he and his wife have the tattoo on their arms to celebrate their marriage.

As before, the original images were 4000x3000 pixels. The "large size" images have been resized to 1000x750 and the thumbnails below are mostly 250x188 pixels. Any cropped image will be identified as such.
