Photo Walks Around Town

My photo walk of 23 June 2009

23 June 2009

80+ minute brisk walk.

Following up on my walk of two days ago I walked to the Mason Airport today. Warm weather has arrived in Michigan and it was a tough walk. I've also been on a vegetarian diet due to a medical lab test. I often see the airplanes overhead due to this airport but I've never made my way out there before.

I headed south on Barnes Street which changed to Eden Road when I crossed Kipp Road. I paused very little to take photos, since I had just walked this route. I headed straight to the Mason Jewett Field airport. It took about 20 minutes of brisk walking to read the entrance road for the airport. The sign at the entrance on Aviation Drive informs that the airport is also home to ASK Application Specialists and the Experimental Aircraft Association. There are a number of hangers housing small aircraft. I had the pleasure of meeting four gentlemen who were working on one of the small experimental planes.

After walking around the airport grounds I headed back home, but not wishing to retrace my steps for the entire trip I change directions at Kipp Road, cutting through the Reith-Riley Construction Company grounds for a better look at this large property and better identifying it after getting a preliminary look at it last walk. Even in the early evening this place was very busy, with trucks coming and going and the sound of equipment very noticable. I took the start of the Hayhoe Riverwalk which cut diagonally from Kipp Road to Jefferson Street, then south on Jefferson on home. I estimate 80+ minutes of brisk walking using about 650 calories.

The entrance to the Mason airport. The entrance sign is at the intersection of Eden Road and Aviation Road.
As I walked down Aviation Road I got my first look at aircraft.
The impressive building in the distance appears to be the home of ASK Application Specialists (close-ups below).

The back of the main airport building with picnic table (handy benches for sitting while removing debris from shoes).
Note the flare (white circle of light) at the upper left on the first photo. The G9 was aimed in the general direction of the sun. You would think the blackened interior of the Lensmate tube wouldn't contribute to flare, but it is certainly quite noticable here.

This hanger shows four aircraft.
After leaving the airport I cut through the Rieth-Riley Construction Company grounds. This is the exit onto Kipp Road.

I took an alternate route home cutting through from Kipp Road to Jefferson Street via the start of the Hayhoe river trail.
There were some bright red berries growing along side the trail.
This big spool of wire was sitting near the railroad tracks on Jefferson Street.
