My photo walk of 9 July 2009 |
9 July 2009 25 minute walk. Today I took the car in for an oil change and decided to take advantage of the wait to take a little photo walk near the service station. On the way I stopped off at the Mason Public Library to drop off some fudge which contained cherries picked from the cherry tree on the library property. Then on to Andrews Chevrolet. I had about half an hour to kill while the car was being serviced, so off on a walk. After dropping off the car I headed north on Cedar Street towards the bowling alley and City Limits restaurant. There was an intriguing road just before I reached the bowling alley so I walked down it, ignoring the "No Trespassing" sign on the chain across the road, and continued into a grassy area with gas pipeline and electrical equipment (and warning signs). I continued into the tall grass and took a picture of some pretty red berries. As I continued circling around the bowling alley I took various pictures of a transmission tower, the 2nd Mason water tower and Highway 127 with exit signs. About this time I found I had attracted some attention and curiosity from the bowling alley people. After explaining my purpose I entered the bowling alley and was granted permission to take photos, which show the effectiveness of the Canon G9's image stabilization system with very slow shutter speeds. The main camera settings are shown in the popup window with enlarged photos. Click on any photo to see a larger version in a popup window with photo information. |
The Mason Public Library ... the cherry tree is currently filled with cherries, though the lower branches are pretty much picked clean. Hazel and I picked cherries, which I dried and then used in an experimental batch of fudge. My idea is to enter "Mason Public Library Cherry Chocolate Fudge" in the Ingham County Fair competition next month. The last photo shows Andrews Chevrolet, where I got an oil change for my Dodge Caravan. |
In the lot behind the bowling alley (beyond the chain labeled "No Trespassing", see photo further down) was a partially cleared area and an area with taller grass and brush. The first picture warns of a "gas pipeline", the second picture shows equipment labeled "Hazardous voltage inside" and the third picture shows a berry bush growing in the brush. |

Views from behind the Mason bowling alley. The first photo shows Highway 127 with signs to the nearby exit. Mason water tower. The road next to the bowling alley leading to the field where the above photos were taken. Note the chain over the road with signs reading "No Trespassing". |
The far end of my short walk ended at the Mason Bowling Alley, which contains the City Limits restaurant. I snapped a few photos inside, with permission. Shown is a 1/2 second exposure of the bowling alleys and a 1/4 second shot of the guys running the alley. |
