4 July 2011 - Independence Day in Mason |
4 July 2011 - 4th of July activities in Mason, Michigan The City of Mason usually has a lot going on when the 4th of July arrives. There are lots of USA flags flying everywhere. There was a nice car show in the city square surrounding the wonderful Ingham County Courthouse building. I took a number of photos showcasing the details of a number of cars. Such attention to delays deserves close examination of these cars. There was a drawing for prizes when I was there. Some humor is also evident, such as the child doll examing one of the cars shown below. In the evening there is a parade, which featured a number of the cars from the car show. Other big groups represented in the parade are the tractors and fire engines. This is a hotbed of interest in tractors with a number of collector organizations. I quite enjoyed the roller derby representation. You can also count on a few local politicians making an appearance. Following the parade, after it becomes dark, there is usually a big fireworks display at the Ingham County Fairgrounds. I joined some people in a local church parking lot to view those fireworks that were high in the sky. My efforts to capture the display were certainly not completely successful, but who can resist trying fireworks photography? I did lose my pocket flashlight in the dark but returned the next day and found it. Alltogether, it was a quite fun and satisfactory day.
