22-25 July 2012 - Short Walks

I frequently do a blood test an hour or so after meals, and if my BG (blood glucose) number is a bit elevated I go for a quick walk to temporarily drive it down till it naturally goes down by itself. This avoids having an elevated number for more than a short period and seems a sensible precaution to me in dealing with diabetes. Even on short walks it can add enjoyment to take along the camera for a few shots.

Following are some photos taken around Mason during three short walks, July 22, 23 and 25. The emphasis was on taking photos I would like (patterns, colors, reflections), not particularly on recording events. Still, a little recording occurred. And spotting the hillside steps that had been removed made me think of all the changes happening continually in Mason.

The first photo above shows the hillside leading up to the parking lot of the Jefferson Street Square Senior Housing building. In the past when walking up the steep grade of Elm Street I occasionally chose to use the stairs instead of the street, a nice challenging walk. The cement steps and railing were in poor condition, though. Apparently someone decided they were unsafe and removed the steps. The second photo shows the stairway as it existed in this same spot in August 2010.

Above is another change. First we had Turtle Tom's Ice Cream Shop. Now we have The Daily Scoop. Below are shots of the new Bad Brewing Company micro brewery that just opened next to Kean's, and next to it is the new Ballyhoo Vintage Shoppe. Tiki Jim's Hawaiian Food Hut is in the old quarters of Ruff Cuts Pet Grooming, which moved into the old quarters of Image Creative Group (which designed the logo for my daughter's company Twisted Fiber Art which recently moved in the Kean's lower level), which moved into the old Mason Barber Shop quarters, which moved to another site in Mason. It's like musical chairs, but new stuff is happening all the time around here!
