23-24 August 2013 - Sun Dried Music Fest in Mason, Michigan (USA)
This fourth annual event seemed every bit as good as last year's. There were good crowds, and for the final bands Saturday night the crowds were huge. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, including many children. As the day went on the participants in the dance area expanded and, by the last two bands, the dancing area was absolutely jam packed ... I know, as a photographer I had a hard time getting around.
It all started on Friday night with the Life Support Band playing for four hours (with a few breaks, of course). There was a good collection of vendors lining Maple Street, a beer tent and two stages (plus a children's stage in the Kid's Area). All day Saturday the music was continuously alternating between the Main Stage at Maple and Jefferson and the 2nd stage at Ash and Jefferson streets. Documenting the 11 groups performing on Saturday from noon till 11:30pm kept me busy shuttling back and forth between home and the Music Fest. I traveled via my TerraTrike. Unlike last year, when it got dark I continued my shuttle via trike with my new lighting system. By the end I was exhausted but found the event to be a fun and worthwhile experience. Kudos to Mason for providing this exciting event for the local citizens! It was great seeing and hearing all the local bands as well.
The event was too big for one web page so I divided my coverage into two pages, one for the event in general and one concentrating specifically on the 12 bands. This page shows some general photos plus coverage of the children's area, the vendors and the Farmers' Market, which had to move to Lee Austin Park (a few blocks to the west), giving up their usual Saturday morning location on Maple Street to make way for the Music Fest.
