28 May 2015 - East Ash Street in Mason This is my first regular photo walk of the new season. I thought it would be interesting to concentrate on individual significant streets in Mason. My first street is Ash Street which runs through the heart of downtown Mason. The historic Ingham County Courthouse is on this street as well as the Ingham County Fairgrounds, Rayner Park, the Mason Chamber of Commerce, the Mason Public Library, the Post Office, Fire Department, City Hall, Police Department, the historic Pink Schoolhouse,and the Keith L. Hayes Park at the western end of the street. I've had a number of nice walks on Ash Street to this park, walked to the other end of the park and returned via Columbia Avenue. I walked east on Ash Street and began my trek from the intersection of Ash with Temple Street. From there I walked west on Ash Street documenting what I saw from the street. Unfortunately, my camera batteries gave out just as I reached Jefferson Street in downtown Mason, so this photo walk actually took two walks to complete. Jefferson Street was the ideal place to end the first walk, since it is the main north/south street dividing East streets from West streets. It was a decently long walk to get to my starting point where Ash Street crosses Temple Street, so I took a couple photos of some of the many flowers decorating Mason. This is indeed a community of gardeners with many beautiful displays. I also encountered my granddaughter Hazel walking home from the Mason Middle School.

I reached Temple Street, where I started my Ash Street walk. Mason Middle School is located north of Ash on Temple Street. The view to the east is shown as well as one of the frequently seen signs (at this time of the year in Michigan) indicating road work. Ash Street is also Michigan Highway M36.

Below are two shots of the popular Dairy Hill ice cream stand. Mason current supports three separate ice cream specialty stores, in addition to multiple establishments that also serve ice cream (such as A&W and Quality Dairy). The other two ice cream establishments are The Daily Scoop on Jefferson Street and Super Twist on Cedar Street.

|
A common device found in Mason lawns and sidewalks is the flag pole holder. On many occasions it is common to see masses of flag poles on display in Mason.
