23 July 2015 - Photo Walk in Marshall with Olympus 75-300 II lens |
23 July 2015 - Photo Walk in Marshall, Michigan My wife and I drove about 50 miles to Marshall, MI where we took several photo walks, one before lunch and the others just after lunch. As with Stockbridge, we moved the car between walks to see different parts of town. We saw some great houses again, one of my favorite photo subjects. One big objective was lunch at one of our favorite restaurants - Schuler's. Besides taking the exercise walks I had an additional objective of trying out my new Olympus 75-300/4.8-6.7 II lens. Though not the ideal lens for a photo walk (it is strictly a telephoto lens with a full-frame equivalent of 150-600mm focal length) I used only this one lens to see what I could do with it. There is divided opinions on how well this lens performs but I found it was quite satisfactory for my needs. Many of the images I obtained were excellent, while all but a few (due to poor focus) were completely satisfactory for use on web pages. Below are thumbnail images of a large selection of the photos I took along with full resolution photos you can download by clicking the links below the thumbnails. Just click on the thumbnail below to see a larger version of the photo in a popup window. Clicking on the full resolution link will display the full resolution image in the same popup window. I've given the focal length and f-stop so you can judge for yourself the qualify of images taken with my copy of this super-telephoto zoom for the Olympus (and other) micro four thirds camera bodies. Note that all images here were taken using the Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera hand held using the in-camera stablization. Occasionally, I was too fast on the gun and took the photo before focus was properly achieved (those photos are not shown). These are all JPEG images straight from the camera without any post processing applied, except for cropping. Note: I have added some photos at the bottom taken the day before to test the quality of the lens. Click on any photo to see a larger version in a popup window. |

The following photos were taken on 22 July 2015, shortly after I received the lens in the mail. I rushed out to take some sample photos to see how the lens performs. All photos taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera at base ISO hand-held.
