27 August 2015- Traverse City, Michigan
This is another photo walk in a Michigan town, but unlike the other recent walks this was a long distance from Michigan. It took us a bit over 3 hours one way to drive there. We've been there a couple times before and enjoyed our visits there, so we anticipated having a good time. Our motivation for going to Traverse City, though, was a more practical one. Our grandson had lost his backpack containing a lot of his personal property in that area, and a police officer had contacted the family using information on my grandson's cell phone. What a remarkable and inspiring story of an old man noticing the lost backpack, rechecking it, and when he found it was still there took it home to figure out what to do with it. After discussing it with his brother they became concerning that something had happened to the owner and contacted the police. A thorough investigation by the police officer enabled him to contact the family and we arranged to pick it up at his Traverse City officer.
Everything went smoothly. We left Mason about 8am and picked up the backpack about 11:30am. Then we were off to enjoy our day in Traverse City! First we located the restaurant (The Towne Plaza) we discovered using the Yelp! app (uninspiring name but excellent food). We parked the car and took a nice pre-luncheon walk starting on Washington Street where it crosses Cass St. The residential area was spectacular with beautiful homes, many quite large and all in excellent condition. The following photos highlight these beautiful houses with a sprinkling of other sites of the city. There are also a couple shots of our half-eaten lunches showing off the wonderful food we enjoyed between walks. Our after-lunch walk took us through the shopping distract on Front Street.
