Checklist of 1/12 Annas (1862-1901)

The following is my best attempt to provide a complete list of the 1/12 Annas of Victoria 1862-1901. In general, the list provided in Standard Catalog of World Coins (Krause) is excellent. The proofs, patterns and restrikes are not listed below. Bust A was used on all coins 1862-1876. Starting in 1877 Bust A was used on all Bombay issues and Bust B on all Calcutta issues. The 1874-1876 coins from both mints used Bust A and the diameter is used to determine the mint.

The coin was minted at all three mints as indicated in the listings. The diameter of the coin indicates the mint on the 1862 issues.
   c - Calcutta
   b - Bombay

* According to "Hundred Years of Indian Coinage" p. 77 Dr. K. N. Sharif says, "The Calcutta mint used to impress on some of its coins, struck during 1882-1887, its mint-mark "c" on one of the embossed dots of the dotted-cirle, below the date. This mark may be seen only on coins that are in excellent condition, as it is very tiny ... A good magnifying glass is necessary to see the mark clearly. A large number of coins so far examined reveals that this mark was discontinued in 1888." Both Krause and Pridmore specify the mint-mark was applied only to the coins of 1882-1886.
